Portrait Drawing Classes
NEW: Drawing Classes for Kids. Alan is now providing drawing classes for kids mainly on Saturdays when not engaged in weekend workshops in The United Arts Club.
Two hour private one-to-one lessons and groups of up to four are also available during weekdays and some evenings in his new studio in Foxrock, Dublin 18.
An online course is also available in Alan's online Art School. Register for free introductory class.
The aim of the course is to give participants at all levels of ability, the methods and techniques to create a lifelike portrait including the theory and practice to add depth, volume, atmosphere and life to portrait drawings. You will learn how to render realistic hair and create complex textures like skin with a layering approach, tonal value relationships, drawing details and working with different kinds of contrast to achieve a balanced visual interest. Participants will draw from a detailed photograph during the classes and the skills learned can be used in the future for drawing any subject matter.
On the final day, you will take away your finished portrait, fully framed and ready for hanging. The tuition fee for the full course is €275 and your place can be secured with a €50 deposit refundable up to a week prior to the start of the course. The balance must be paid a week in advance of the start. Course numbers are limited so early booking is advisable.
